JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta district court has fined 129 people convicted of violating a city public order regulation. Their prosecution is part of South Jakarta's Judicial Operation.
The 129 people were convicted under City Ruling No.11/1988, which prohibits a variety of actions, including jaywalking, cutting down trees in public parks and bathing in public places. They were each fined between Rp 4,500 and Rp 20,000.
Judge Bachtiar Lubis said the fines imposed came to a total of Rp 724,500, Antara reported.
South Jakarta Mayor Pardjoko revealed that a total of 2,271 offenders had been arrested in the operation between Nov. 16, 1993 and Jan. 31, 1995.
According to the mayor, the chief objective of the operation is to instill discipline in Jakarta's citizens to ensure obedience to city public order regulations. (bas)
