The government plans to open recruitment for civil service candidates (CASN), including CPNS, starting in 2026. One of the reasons is the number of civil servants (ASN) dismissed for disciplinary violations, namely absenteeism.

Head of the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) and Deputy Chairman of the Civil Service Advisory Board (BPASN), Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, revealed that a total of 128 ASN have been dismissed due to absenteeism. This total consists of 75 ASN dismissed throughout 2025, and 53 ASN during the current year of 2026.

“BPASN is taking action against ASN who submit administrative appeals, among others, for being dismissed due to not coming to work (absenteeism),” Zudan told CNBC Indonesia on Friday (10/7/2026).

Of the 75 ASN dismissed in 2025 for not coming to work, the majority were from the permanent civil servant (PNS) formation, totalling 64 people. Meanwhile, 11 were government employees with work agreements (PPPK).

Subsequently, in the 2026 period, 53 ASN have been recorded as dismissed for absenteeism so far. The majority again came from the PNS formation, with 49 people, while 4 were PPPK.

With these records, the overall number of PNS dismissed for absenteeism is 113, while only 15 PPPK have been dismissed.

According to Zudan, there are various reasons behind the absenteeism, ranging from illness without a doctor’s note, remote or isolated work locations, caring for parents, to economic and domestic problems.

During a working meeting with Committee I of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in June 2026, Zudan revealed that the high number of dismissed ASN makes the need for 2026 CASN procurement strategic.

“So for next year’s needs, the tests must be held now because there is a candidate probation period, orientation, and preparation,” Zudan said during the working meeting with DPD Committee I.

Furthermore, he disclosed that many positions currently require ASN formations not based on work agreements, but rather PNS formations, such as teachers or lecturers.

“And for positions like teachers and lecturers, long-term positions are indeed needed, so they are not contractual, because these are functional positions that prepare the long-term generation,” Zudan stated.
