124 suspects detained

JAKARTA: Police seized a total of 124 suspects in some 83 drug-related cases during its three-week anti-drug campaign aimed at cracking down on the crime in the capital, a city police spokesman reported on Tuesday.

"The suspects were seized in raids conducted by the Jakarta police precincts," said Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam.

Anton said police had confiscated a total of 104.45 grams of heroin, 39,151 ecstasy pills, 60.1 kilograms of dried marijuana, 30 liters of liquefied ecstasy raw material, three syringes, and other devices for making and consuming drugs during the so-called Antik Jaya 2001 operation since Oct. 25.

Anton added the police also captured 42 suspects of crimes related to the illegal possession of alcoholic beverages, firecrackers and pirated video compact discs (VCD).

Police seized a total of 381 bottles of alcoholic drink, 1.8 million firecrackers and 633,600 VCDs, he said. --JP
