Police investigating case involving severe injuries and burn wounds A 12-year-old boy in West Java, Indonesia, has died after allegedly suffering repeated abuse by his stepmother. Police investigations are ongoing. Severe Injuries Reported Indonesian media reported that the boy sustained multiple injuries, including wounds believed to be caused by physical abuse and extensive burns. Doctors at the hospital reportedly found severe internal injuries consistent with scalding. A video circulating online showed the boy in hospital before his death. In the footage, when asked who had hurt him, he appeared to point to his stepmother. Previous Police Report Filed The boy’s father said in a video interview that he had previously lodged a police report against his wife over earlier alleged abuse involving his son. According to media reports, the matter was later mediated after the woman promised to change, although the police report was not formally withdrawn. The father also alleged that his son had been punished during disputes with his stepmother’s adopted children, while the other children were not subjected to similar treatment. Events Before His Death On the night before the boy’s death, his father was working outside the village and returned home after receiving a call that his son had developed a high fever. He said he was shocked to find his son covered with blisters and burn injuries, as the child had appeared healthy earlier that day. Injuries Consistent with Abuse The stepmother reportedly claimed that the boy’s skin developed blisters when he had a fever. The child was taken to hospital early on Feb 19, where medical staff concluded that the injuries were consistent with abuse. He died later that afternoon. Investigations Ongoing An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Police have launched an investigation into the case. Authorities are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death. The case has drawn public attention in Indonesia as officials work to determine responsibility.
