At least 12 US F-22 fighter jets landed at an Israeli airbase on Tuesday (24 February) local time. The arrival of these US fighter jets was reported as tensions with Iran escalate, with the possibility of war drawing closer.

The arrival of the US fighter jets at the Israeli airbase, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Wednesday (25 February 2026), was reported by the Israeli local television channel KAN. It was stated that the presence of the dozen F-22 fighter jets is part of the US military deployment in the Middle East region.

“A total of 12 US F-22 fighter jets landed this afternoon at one of the Israeli Air Force bases in the southern part of the country, as part of the American deployment in the Middle East,” KAN stated in its report on Tuesday (24 February).

In its report, KAN stated that the F-22 fighter jet is one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world, and is only owned by the US.

According to KAN’s report, this type of fighter jet is assigned to “penetrate enemy territory and neutralise air defence systems and radar installations”.

This deployment of fighter jets comes as the US increases its military presence in the Persian Gulf region, with President Donald Trump threatening to take military action against Iran if the current nuclear negotiations, which have resumed, fail to reach an agreement.

US and Iranian negotiators are scheduled to continue indirect talks, mediated by Oman, in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday (26 February).

While the nuclear negotiations are ongoing, Trump has threatened to attack Iran if the country does not reach an agreement on key issues, starting with its nuclear programme. He issued a direct ultimatum to Tehran: limit the nuclear programme, limit missiles, and stop arming regional proxies – or face “very bad things”.

Last week, Trump even said that he was considering a limited strike if Iran does not reach an agreement in negotiations with the US.

The US has deployed two of its aircraft carriers to the Middle East region, with the USS Abraham Lincoln already in the region, while the USS Gerald R Ford, which is the largest aircraft carrier in the world, has reportedly arrived at a US base in Souda Bay, Greece.
