Israel has violated the ceasefire by resuming attacks on Gaza, bringing the death toll to 12 people.

According to AFP on Sunday (15 February), despite the US-mediated ceasefire entering its second phase last month, violence has continued in Palestinian territory. Israel has persisted in launching strikes on Gaza.

The civil defence agency, which operates as a rescue force under Hamas authority, reported that one strike hit a displacement camp in northern Gaza whilst another targeted an area in the south.

Five people were killed and several others wounded when an Israeli airstrike targeted a displacement camp in Jabalia in the north. A further five people were killed and several others injured in a separate morning attack on the city of Khan Yunis in the south.

The Gaza Civil Defence Agency reported that one additional person was killed by Israeli forces’ gunfire in Gaza City. Israeli gunfire also killed one person in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.

Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals confirmed they had received at least seven bodies.

“Israel does not understand ceasefire or peace,” said Osama Abu Askar, who lost his nephew in the Jabalia attack. He said Gaza residents were being killed in their sleep.
