12 Fire Points Hit Bogor Regency, Galuga Landfill Blaze Not Yet Extinguished
A number of areas in Bogor Regency, West Java, are currently being hit by a series of fire disasters. Based on reports received by the regional government, there are at least 12 fire locations spread across various points on Tuesday (8/9).
One of the largest fires was reported in a farming area or field adjacent to the Galuga Final Waste Disposal Site (TPA) in Cibungbulang District. The flames began on Monday (7/9) afternoon, and as of Tuesday (8/9) at 05:00 WIB, officers were still trying to extinguish the blaze, which had not yet been fully brought under control.
Bogor Regent Rudy directly inspected the disaster site around the Galuga landfill on Tuesday morning at around 04:00 WIB. He confirmed that drought conditions were worsening the situation on the ground.
“Today we received a report that there are 12 fire locations in Bogor Regency, one of them at the Galuga landfill,” Regent Rudy said at the scene.
The Regent explained that rainfall in Bogor Regency is currently very low due to a prolonged dry season. This condition has not only triggered land fires but has also caused a clean water crisis in several places.
The combination of dry vegetation and difficult access to water is a particular challenge for firefighting teams in the field. The regional government is now focusing on emergency response to prevent the fire from spreading into residential areas or the core waste disposal zone.
Given the high risk of fire amid this extreme weather, Regent Rudy called on residents to increase their vigilance and refrain from activities that could spark a fire.
“We always urge the public not to burn rubbish carelessly and not to throw away cigarette ends carelessly. Let us all look after our environment together — do not let something small end up having a big impact and harming many people,” he concluded.
Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto explained that the fire at the Galuga landfill, which broke out on Monday (7/9) afternoon at around 17:00 WIB, has been difficult to control because of access constraints.
The handling of the fire in the farmland area within the Galuga landfill zone in Cibungbulang, Bogor Regency, West Java, is still ongoing as fire hotspots remain, according to the Regent.
