117 Crescent Moon Observation Points for Eid 2026 in Indonesia, Isbat Session to be Held on 19 March

The locations for observing the crescent moon for Eid 2026 are spread across 117 points throughout Indonesia, prepared by the government to determine the beginning of Shawwal 1447 Hijriah through the Isbat session. The Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold the Isbat session for determining 1 Shawwal 1447 H on 19 March 2026, coinciding with 29 Ramadan 1447 H. The session will take place at the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium, Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs RI, Jakarta. Director General of Islamic Community Guidance, Abu Rokhmad, stated that the crescent moon observation will be conducted simultaneously in various regions as part of the process to determine the start of the Hijriah month. “The determination of the start of Shawwal 1447 H will await reports of the crescent moon sighting results from all regions, which will then be discussed in the Isbat session,” he said. He explained that the moon observation is carried out by Regional Offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Religious Courts, Islamic community organisations, and related agencies in the regions. After that, a closed session will be held to discuss the results of the crescent moon sightings from all observation points before being announced to the public. Based on astronomical calculations, on 19 March 2026, the height of the crescent moon in Indonesia will be above the horizon, namely between 0°54’27’’ and 3°7’52’’, with elongation of 4°32’40’’ to 6°06’11’’. Nevertheless, the government will still await the results of the rukyat as the final determinant.
