1,159 rebels killed since September: TNI

BANDA ACEH: At least 1,159 Free Aceh Movement (GAM) members were killed in armed contact between the rebels and government troops from Nov. 20, 2003 to Aug. 18, 2004, according to data provided by the Media Center of the Aceh Security Restoration Operation Command in Aceh.

The troops also confiscated 753 guns and detained 672 rebels, while 696 rebels surrendered.

On the government side, at least 34 soldiers have been killed, 26 others died in accidents or of illness and 100 were injured in combat.

The data also showed that two police personnel were killed and 15 injured. The nine-month period also claimed 147 civilian lives, with 155 injured. --Antara
