Hundreds of students from SMAN 1 Cisayong in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, suffered symptoms of mass poisoning believed to be after consuming a menu from the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. Several students were even taken to Cisayong Health Centre for medical treatment.

The incident occurred on Thursday (9/4/2026). In addition to those treated at the health centre, one student had to be referred to RSUD KHZ Musthafa due to their condition requiring further care.

“114 people were detected, 14 were treated. The meal was yesterday, Wednesday, not today Thursday, but the symptoms started in the evening,” said Teacher at SMA N 1 Cisayong, Arif, as quoted by detikJabar on Friday (10/4/2026).

The school detected 114 students experiencing poisoning symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and continuous diarrhoea. Of that number, 17 students had to be rushed to Cisayong Health Centre for intensive medical treatment.

“So some were treated at the health centre and the rest, five returned,” said Arif.

Head of the Tasikmalaya MBG Task Force Team, Ruby Azhari, assured that the Tasikmalaya Regency Government is handling this issue seriously. The task force has taken food samples for laboratory testing in Bandung.

“Suspected food poisoning among beneficiaries who consumed the MBG menu. The cause is still being investigated because we just took the samples and sent them to the lab in Bandung,” said Ruby Azhari.
