BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: A man who killed his girlfriend after she failed to give a satisfactory answer to his marriage proposal was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the Tanjungkarang District Court.

Antara said the court found 29-year-old Nafian guilty of murdering Ria Indriani, 19, at the Marcopolo Hotel in Bandar Lampung last September.

According to the court testimony, Ria, who was working at a bar, did not turn down the marriage proposal, but asked for a few days to think it over.

The indecision upset Nafian, who then stabbed her in the neck in their hotel room.

He removed all her jewelry before fleeing to create the impression that a robbery had been committed.

Nafian was arrested as he was heading for the Branti airport to board a plane that was scheduled to leave for Jakarta the following day. (emb)
