11 villages still not functioning

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Eleven out of 5,947 subdistrict governments in Aceh are still not functioning, three months after martial law was lifted in the troubled province.

Sr. Comr. Anjaya, the deputy chief of the civil emergency administration, said that they were not functioning because the subdistricts were abandoned by public servants and residents due to fears of clashes.

The security situation is getting better, hence the number of subdistrict administrations not functioning are far fewer than last year, said Anjaya. Last year, when Aceh was still under martial law, hundreds of subdistricts did not function in Aceh, he said. -- Antara
