11 PLN Substations Affected by M 7.7 Earthquake Now Fully Restored
A total of 11 substations owned by PT PLN (Persero) East Nusa Tenggara Regional Main Unit (UIW NTT) were affected by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Nagekeo. PLN has confirmed that all of these substations have now returned to normal operation.
Recovery was carried out by PLN by deploying all resources to accelerate the restoration of the electricity system following the earthquake.
“All PLN teams are working tirelessly in the field. We are prioritising the restoration of vital facilities first so that disaster response and basic services for the public can run normally. Our commitment is to restore electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible for all communities,” Eko stressed through a press release on Sunday (16/8/2026).
In addition to substations, the earthquake also affected the distribution network. Of the total 3,478 distribution substations affected, 3,059 substations, or around 88 percent, have resumed operation. The restoration has allowed electricity supply to be reconnected to around 467,000 customers.
Eko said PLN personnel are still working in the field to restore the entire electricity system to 100 percent. Teams are also conducting sweeps and repairs of distribution networks affected by landslides and broken poles.
PLN prioritised the restoration of electricity supply for vital facilities, especially health and transport facilities. The successful restoration of transmission lines and substations was one of the keys to accelerating electricity supply to these public facilities.
“Transport facilities such as airports and health service facilities are the top priority,” he said.
One facility confirmed to have regained reliable electricity supply is Bajawa Regional Hospital. The electricity supply is needed to support medical services and treatment of earthquake victims.
According to Eko, PLN teams are currently continuing to conduct sweeps and repairs on distribution networks affected by landslides and broken poles.
“PLN urges the public to remain calm and vigilant and to pray that the entire recovery process runs smoothly. Official information regarding developments in the electricity situation can be monitored through the PLN Mobile application and PLN Contact Centre 123,” he concluded.
Director of Bajawa Regional Hospital Heronimus Due appreciated PLN’s preparedness in maintaining electricity supply at the hospital. According to him, electricity reliability is very important to support patient care and emergency medical procedures.
“Thank you to PLN. Since the earthquake occurred until now, the hospital’s electricity condition has remained controlled and stable. This electricity reliability is crucial for patients in intensive care as well as the smooth running of planned emergency operations, both for patients with foetal distress and for handling victims with fractures due to the earthquake. We are greatly helped,” said Heronimus.
Appreciation was also expressed by the hotel sector. Blue Ocean Hotel Manager Lusiana Isabella Badik appreciated the swift action of PLN officers in handling electricity disruptions after the earthquake.
