11 Papua Green Pythons Seized in Bekasi in Foreign Nationals' Wildlife Smuggling Case

The Bareskrim Police’s PPNS Inspection Bureau and the Ministry of Forestry’s Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) Civil Servant Investigators conducted a raid on a warehouse in Bekasi related to suspected violations of conservation laws for biological resources and ecosystems (KSDAE). During the raid, a joint team seized 11 protected Papua green pythons (Morelia viridis). The raid took place at a warehouse on Jalan Inspeksi Kalimalang No. 48, Bekasi City, West Java, on Saturday (30/5/2026). The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into two suspects identified as DY (Dutch national) and AK (Lithuanian national), suspected of involvement in the illegal export of protected wildlife from various regions in Indonesia. The operation was conducted based on a court order from Bekasi District Court and a request for assistance from the Ministry of Forestry’s Gakkum Directorate. The joint team searched a warehouse in Bekasi suspected of being a storage site for protected wildlife and discovered 11 Morelia viridis, or Papua green pythons. ‘During the raid, the team discovered protected wildlife in the form of Morelia viridis, or Papua green pythons. The animals have been secured for investigation purposes,’ said Bareskrim Police’s PPNS Inspection Bureau Chief Brigadier General Edy Suranta Sitepu. Brigadier General Edy Suranta Sitepu stated that investigative support was provided to assist the Ministry of Forestry’s PPNS in legal enforcement processes. ‘The Bareskrim Police’s PPNS Inspection Bureau has provided investigative support to the Ministry of Forestry’s Gakkum Directorate’s PPNS, including accompanying the raid to develop the case regarding suspected crimes in the conservation of biological resources and ecosystems,’ he explained. Following the raid, investigators interviewed witnesses and transported the seized animals to the Tegal Alur Wildlife Rescue Centre (PPS) in West Jakarta for health checks and quarantine. Investigators also plan to summon the warehouse owner to further develop the case. ‘The police, through the PPNS Inspection Bureau, are committed to supporting PPNS investigations to ensure legal enforcement procedures are followed. The investigation will continue to uncover all parties involved in this case,’ he concluded.
