11 more arrested over brawl in Magelang
MAGELANG, Central Java: Magelang Police Precinct have arrested 11 more suspects over a recent brawl in the Magelang subdistrict of Banjaragung, making the total number arrested over the incident 15, an official said.
The 15 suspects were charged with assault, violating Article 170 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail.
One of the suspects, ES, was charged with the possession of a weapon, violating Law. 30/1951, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The brawl erupted on Sunday after two youths, Rois Kurniawan from Marjoyo hamlet in Banjaragung and Wahyono from Punduhan hamlet in Sambakan subdistrict, became involved in an argument.
Magelang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Agus Sofyan Abadi said that Rois became jealous when Wahyono escorted his girlfriend home.
Rois mobilized his friends and as a result, some 15 youths descended on Punduhan and attacked Wahyono and his friends, who were chatting somewhere in Punduhan hamlet in Sambakan subdistrict here.
Four were injured in the attack, namely, Wahyudi, 25, Wahyono, 23, Sutoyo, 27 and Nugroho, 18. They are being treated at Tidar Hospital in Magelang.
Some 200 residents of Sambakan flocked to Marjoyo hamlet to hunt for Rois. After failing to find him, they destroyed several houses in the area.
Rois has been named a suspect by the police. -- Antara
