A retaining wall collapsed in Pagelaran Village, Ciomas, Bogor, West Java. The cause is unstable soil contours leading to reduced ground density. “The landslide is estimated to have occurred because of unstable soil contours mixed with waste, making the ground less compact,” said M. Adam Hamdani, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Bogor Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), on Thursday (9/7/2026). The incident took place on Wednesday (8/7) evening. This morning, BPBD officers received a report of the incident for disaster management, as the landslide material partially blocked the flow of the Ciapus River. “The affected public facility is the retaining wall along the Ciapus River, with the landslide measuring approximately 11 metres high, 26 metres long, and 5 metres wide,” he explained. Adam stated that there were no casualties in the incident. In addition to unstable soil contours, the river flow triggered soil erosion. “The analysis points to unstable soil contours, the condition of the retaining wall being merely a pile of earth, and the presence of the Ciapus River flow below, which likely eroded the retaining wall,” he said. Handling has been carried out by BPBD officers at the location. Currently, the landslide material has not been repaired, and the landowner will be responsible. “The debris blocking the Ciapus River flow will be evacuated (cleared) by the landowner using heavy equipment,” he concluded.
