11 Illegal Oil Wells in Muba Catch Fire, South Sumatra Police Hunt Owners

Eleven illegal oil wells caught fire in the PT Hindoli area, Keluang subdistrict, Musi Banyuasin (Muba), South Sumatra. South Sumatra Police are currently hunting down the owners of those wells. According to detikSumbagsel, Kasubbid Penmas Bidhumas Polda Sumsel, Kompol Putu Suryawan, stated that a joint team from Subdit Tipidter Ditreskrimsus Polda Sumsel, Polres Muba, and Polsek Keluang is still conducting investigations. The police have already obtained the identities of the well owners, including M, R, K, and I. “Members of Ditreskrimsus Polda Sumsel, in collaboration with Polres Muba, are currently pursuing the perpetrators or owners of the burnt wells, and scene processing is still underway,” he said on Friday (3/4/2026). It is known that the oil wells suspected to be illegal in the PT Hindoli area exploded on Tuesday night (31/3/2026) and caught fire again. At present, the police are still combing through and cataloguing the incident location. In addition to the 11 oil wells that caught fire, eight pickup vehicles, one lorry, and several motorcycles were also burnt in the incident. “Members are still conducting sweeps of other locations indicated to have illegal wells,” he said.
