Manado (ANTARA) - A total of 11 houses in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, sustained light damage following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in the South Mindanao region of the Philippines this morning.

“In addition to the 11 houses belonging to residents that suffered light damage, there was also damage to public facilities, such as a port warehouse in Essang and a hospital fence,” said the Secretary of the Talaud Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Fretsli Ontorael, when contacted via mobile phone in Manado on Monday.

Residents who were affected have since returned to their homes in better condition after receiving medical treatment.

“The current situation is conducive, and residents have resumed their activities as usual,” stated Ontorael.

Ontorael expressed hope that residents living along the coast remain cautious and vigilant, even though the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) lifted the tsunami early warning several hours ago.

“Continue your activities as usual but remain vigilant, even though the frequency of aftershocks has decreased,” Ontorael added.
