11,565 Cattle from NTB Shipped to Java Ahead of Eid al-Adha
A total of 11,565 head of cattle from Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) have been shipped to Java Island ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah. The shipment of the cattle was carried out through Gili Mas Port and Bima Port in NTB.
Deputy for Animal Quarantine of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), Sriyanto, stated that he has requested the NTB Quarantine Office to intensively monitor animal traffic in NTB. This is because, based on data from the Barantin Best Trust application, livestock traffic out of NTB has increased since entering April 2026.
“Only in the first 16 days of April, the shipment volume has surged sharply,” said Sriyanto on Sunday (19/4/2026).
Sriyanto noted that the number of cattle shipments from NTB in April has risen significantly compared to January 2026, which was only 1,454 head, February (733), and March (4,791). When accumulated, the total of 18,543 head of cattle from NTB have been dispatched to Java Island.
“Jabodetabek remains the main market for cattle from NTB,” Sriyanto stated.
Sriyanto explained that animal traffic supervision has been tightened in accordance with Circular Letter (SE) of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency Deputy for Animal Quarantine No. 23 of 2026 regarding early preparedness for preventing quarantine animal pests and diseases (HPHK).
“Our focus is on mitigating risks against threats of diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), lumpy skin disease (LSD), and anthrax, whose potential increases along with the high mobilisation of livestock,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the NTB Quarantine Office, Ina Soelistyani, said that her office continues to conduct physical examinations of cattle being shipped to Java Island. The NTB Quarantine Office also provides laboratory facilities and tightened biosecurity through disinfection of transport fleets.
NTB Quarantine, she stated, ensures that the animal certification process is now much more streamlined thanks to digitalisation. This allows services to remain fast and transparent despite high shipment volumes.
“Transport facilities, including the Livestock Sea Toll Ship Camara Nusantara 3 operating at Bima Port, are ensured to meet technical standards to minimise stress on the animals,” Ina said.
According to Ina, the graph of cattle shipments from NTB is now starting to flatten after passing the peak flow. “We are also coordinating with local transportation and livestock agencies to ensure there are no gaps in obstacles at every distribution node,” she concluded.
