Within less than a week, Indonesian Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The government, through the Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR), continues to provide support to communities affected by floods in Sumatra to help ease their burden ahead of the holiday celebration.

As part of these efforts, Satgas PRR Chair and Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, together with Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (known as Gus Ipul), visited East Aceh on Monday, 16 March 2026, to distribute social assistance to disaster victims totalling Rp100,935,850,000.

Satgas PRR distributed assistance to 7,643 household heads. The breakdown includes socio-economic stimulus assistance of Rp5 million per household, totalling Rp38,215,000,000. Additionally, housing support of Rp3 million per household was distributed, valued at Rp22,929,000,000.

Other assistance consisted of a living allowance of Rp15,000 per person per day for three months. For this programme, the government allocated Rp38,921,850,000 for 28,831 people, forming part of the 7,643 assisted households. There was also compensation for heirs of 60 people valued at Rp900,000,000, and compensation for two victims with severe injuries totalling Rp10,000,000. All assistance was channelled through PT Pos Indonesia.

Satgas PRR Chair Tito Karnavian stated that the floods which struck in late 2025 had impacted economic growth in Aceh Province. Accordingly, the assistance distributed in East Aceh District is expected to serve as a stimulus to boost community economic activity in the post-flood recovery.

“To increase economic growth, one approach is to raise household purchasing power. What is household purchasing power? We give people money so they can spend,” said Tito.

Furthermore, the Interior Ministry handed over 2,000 household equipment packages to East Aceh residents. Recovery efforts also involved increasing transfers to regions (TKD) across all affected areas in the three provinces by a total of Rp10.6 trillion.

The 7,643 affected household heads in East Aceh represent 11.26 per cent of all families receiving relief assistance across the three flood-affected provinces, which total 67,886 households. To date, the Social Affairs Ministry has distributed Rp713 billion spread across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra from a total budget of Rp878.68 billion.

“There is still Rp127 billion more in the process at the Finance Ministry. Hopefully, the remainder can be distributed before Eid,” said Social Affairs Minister Gus Ipul.

East Aceh Regent Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Satgas PRR Chair Tito Karnavian and Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf. He also hoped the central government would continue providing guidance and support so that the acceleration of flood impact mitigation, particularly in East Aceh, could proceed quickly.

“May Aceh recover quickly, and likewise the other provinces and regencies affected in Sumatra,” he said.

This relief distribution process represents Satgas PRR’s commitment to accelerating recovery by ensuring all indicators are met. Beyond social assistance, Satgas PRR ensures government operations, basic public services, road connectivity, economic activities, and community essentials return to normal functioning. This acceleration is pursued through intensive coordination with ministries, agencies, and local governments.
