10th National Art Exhibition starts
JAKARTA (JP): The 10th National Art Exhibition, called Bienale X, starts today at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Art Center, Central Jakarta, and will run until Dec. 15.
Bienale X's theme is modern Indonesian painting Seni Lukis Indonesia Masa Kini. Last year's exhibition promoted the inclusion of works by several noted artists.
This year's exhibition will display works by 60 prominent artists of l980s and l990s from Jakarta, Bandung and Tasikmalaya (West Java), Surakarta and Yogyakara (Central Java), Surabaya and Banyuwangi (East Java), Bali, Medan (North Sumatra) and Manado (North Sulawesi).
The artists represented include: Agus Suwage, Astari Rasjid, Jerry T, Dede Eri Supria, Semsar Siahaan, Teguh Ostenrik from Jakarta. West Java is represented by Umi Dachlan, Kaboel Suadi and Heyi Ma'mun.
Yogyakarta and Surakarta representatives include Ardiyanto Pranata, Bambang Pramudiyanto, Dwijo Sukatmo, Tulus Warsito. Bali is represented by Ketut Budhiana, Made Djirna, Nyoman Erawan, Pande Gede Supada.
Curated by four senior artists including Mara Karma, Rudjito, Sri Warso Wahono and Sulebar Sukarman, the Bienale exhibition, held since l974, is aimed at boosting Indonesian artists' creativity. It is also a barometer of the current local art development.
In addition to the one-month exhibition, Jakarta will host a series of important art events including the coming exhibition of Sudjana Kerton, one of Indonesian top painters, at the Ministry of Education and Culture's Fine Art Gallery.
Several art galleries such Galeri Cemara Enam, Andi Gallery, will also display their collections. (Tri Wahyuni)
