10.6 kg of marijuana seized in Jambi

JAMBI: Local police seized 10.6 kilograms of marijuana from an intercity bus Karona in Bangko, some 320 kilometer west of the provincial capital on Saturday.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Soemarsono, chief of the Sarko Police Precinct, said the police had arrested five Acehnese people who were suspected of trying to smuggle the banned substance from Aceh to Jakarta.

The five suspects were identified as NG, PT, AS, MI and OS, he said.

Jambi Police have seized more than 80 kg of dried marijuana from passenger buses that passed through the province from Aceh to Jakarta over the last two months.

He said the local police would coordinate with police in Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, West Java and Jakarta to eliminate the rampant smuggling of marijuana and banned drugs from Aceh to Java and Bali. --Antara
