103 Irianese get remissions
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: As many as 103 convicts serving sentences in the Abepura prison will have their jail terms reduced in recognition of good conduct.
The government will extend the remissions in honor of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence, which falls tomorrow.
Abepura prison warden Sutarso said that 18 of the prisoners to which remissions are being extended will be released tomorrow, Antara reported yesterday.
Nationally, the sentences of thousands of prisoners will be reduced on Aug. 17 under the regular remission scheme. Remissions are granted each year on Independence Day. (pan)
