101 golfers from 20 countries to compete in Kosaido Open

JAKARTA (JP): A total of 101 golfers from 20 countries will compete in the US$100,000 Kosaido Ladies Indonesia Open golf championship from Feb. 15 to Feb. 17 in Pandaan, a small town 60km south of Surabaya.

Winner of last year's Kosaido Circuit, Lisa Hackney of the United Kingdom, the 1994 Thailand Open champion Liz Earley of Canada and last year's Malaysia Open champion Corrine Dibnah of Australia are among the participants.

Hosts Indonesia will field three amateur golfers, Gunaningsih Utomo, Yati Yoenis and Jamillah.

However, Retno Mustari, the best Indonesian female golfer and winner of the 1994 Indonesian Ladies amateur golf championship, will not take part because she wants to focus on her studies.

The championship, to be held on the par 72, 5,637-meter course of the Finna golf and country club, offers $13,500 in prize money to the winner.

The three-day event is the third leg of this year's Kosaido Ladies Golf Circuit which started in Chinese Taipei's Chang Gung golf and country club from Jan. 31 to Feb. 3. The second leg is due to start today on Tanah Merah Country Club's Garden course in Singapore until Saturday.

At the end of the series, the player who collects the largest sum of money will top the circuit's order of merit and be invited to the US$ 1 million Kosaido Japan Open.

The circuit, set up in 1984, is open to female golfers aged over 17. (arf)
