101 Ebola cases confirmed in DRC as 10 African countries face outbreak risk
MONGBWALU (ANTARA) - World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Sunday (24 May) that as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) intensifies its monitoring of the Ebola outbreak, more than 900 suspected cases have been identified, including 101 confirmed cases.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has warned that 10 African countries are at high risk of contracting the latest Ebola outbreak currently affecting the DRC and Uganda, amid growing regional concerns about the virus’s spread.
During an online press briefing on Saturday (23 May) local time, Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya stated that the high-risk countries are South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Zambia, Central African Republic, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Angola, Republic of Congo, and Burundi.
