10,000 troops for Idul Fitri

JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata inaugurated a special security team yesterday to safeguard the city during the Idul Fitri holidays.

The team, which is in charge of a special operation called Operasi Ketupat, has 13,592 Armed Forces members, including police and the Land Transportation Control Agency (DLLAJ).

Operasi Ketupat started yesterday and will end on Feb. 29.

During the inauguration at the city police headquarters Hamami said the team was created to deal with scalpers at railway and bus stations, robbers, and possible workers' protests.

The troops will be posted at crowded places including bus terminals, railway stations, airports, seaports, and mosques.

Last year 5,498 people were involved in the Idul Fitri security team. (05/Jun)
