100 'Robot' Cigarette Production Monitors to Be Deployed by DJBC Starting End of June 2026
Director General of Customs and Excise Djaka Budhi Utama has revealed that his agency will begin installing automated cigarette production monitoring machines in every tobacco products industry (IHT) starting at the end of June 2026. He stated that the installation of the system, which is connected directly to the DJBC Head Office, is currently entering the initial piloting phase at the end of June. “Maybe at the end of June or early July we will conduct a pilot first. After that, next year we can make it effective,” Djaka said when met at the DPR Building complex, Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026). Djaka said that in the initial trial phase, at least 100 systems will be deployed across various cigarette industries. Subsequently, next year all cigarette industries will be required to install the automated production monitoring system. “For the initial stage, maybe around 100 machines will be installed first. Gradually, we will require all cigarette factories to have them,” Djaka stated. Previously, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that the government would install advanced machines capable of counting cigarette production at each company, linked directly to the Ministry of Finance’s headquarters. “Soon, Customs and Excise will operate a machine to automatically detect cigarette production counts, which will be linked to the centre,” Purbaya said during an APBN press conference at the Ministry of Finance’s head office, Jakarta, Friday (5/6/2026). Purbaya said the machines would be implemented the following week, with the target of completing the installation of automatic cigarette production counters across all Tobacco Products Industries (IHT) within six months. According to him, with these machines in place, there will no longer be any leakage of excise revenue in the IHT sector. “Later, cigarette production calculations at factories will automatically be sent directly here, to Customs and Excise, so there will be no more leakages; the detection is quite sophisticated,” Purbaya said. “Including misallocation of use and misidentification, these can be immediately detected by the new system,” he stressed.
