100 ha of rice fields damaged in Jambi

JAMBI: More than 100 hectares (ha) of rice fields in Muaro Bungo subdistrict are under threat of ruination following serious damage to the irrigation networks in Bungo Regency.

Jambi Governor Zulkifli Nurdin asked the Bungo local administration to repair the damaged irrigation system immediately to help salvage paddies that could dry up because of the damaged irrigation system.

"These paddies will become dry, but could be harvested if water supplies return to the vast farming land," he said when making a tour to the regency on Wednesday.

Syafwan Syafar, chief of the local public works office, said the local administration has allocated Rp 750 million (US$75,000) to repair the damaged irrigation system, which should be able to irrigate 300 ha of farming land in the regency.
