100 grade schools to be renovated
JAKARTA (JP): The East Jakarta mayoralty will renovate more than one hundred state-owned elementary school buildings in this fiscal year, Mayor Sudarsono says.
"Seventy-one of the school buildings have already been renovated since April with costs ranging between Rp 50 million (US$21,331) and Rp 170 million each, depending on their condition," the mayor told the press at his office recently.
He said that the 42 other school buildings will get their turn for repair soon.
Mayoralty education office records indicate that the mayoralty has a total of 511 state-owned elementary school buildings used by 748 schools. One building is used by more than one school.
"Some of the buildings, which are only four years old, are in poor condition. This could be because unscrupulous contractors used inferior materials for the construction," an official, who asked for anonymity, said. (kod)
