100 firms to join IITELMIT

JAKARTA (JP): Over 100 companies from around the world will take part in the Indonesian International Telecommunication Media and Information Technology (IITELMIT) conference and exhibition, which opens on Sunday.

The five-day event will occupy over 5,000 square meters of the Jakarta Convention Center, event organizer PT Rantai Expo International said.

"Seeing the enthusiasm of the companies to take part, we are confident that IITELMIT 2001 will be bigger and better this year," project manager Henry Sihombing said.

He said that most of last year's exhibitors were returning this year with larger exhibits, and that India, Malaysia and South Korea would have their own national pavilions this year.

Alongside the exhibition, the two-day Internet World Conference will begin on Monday. The conference will feature such speakers as the Republic of Colombia's vice minister of communications, Indonesia's coordinating minister for the economy and the senior consultant for the United Nation's ICT task force.

The conference will address the issues and possible solutions to the digital divide. (tnt)
