100 families want electricity

BOGOR (JP): At least 100 families from Kayumanis village in Tanah Sereal district here have complained at the absence of electricity in their houses, despite living only eight kilometers away from the Bogor offices of state electricity company PT PLN.

Enoh, who lives in the village, said that residents had been asking the company to provide electricity to the area for years. "Up to now, however, we've had no response," he said.

He also said that an area only 300 meters away was connected to the electricity grid four years ago.

"The absence of electricity means that our children have to study by candlelight," he said, adding that the situation was made all the more ironic given that the area is surrounded by four luxury housing complexes.

Responding to the compliant, a spokesman for PLN's Bogor office said that a team would be sent to inspect the area.

"Hopefully within three months they will be connected to the electricity grid," he said.

He explained that in order to get electricity, people must register at the PLN office, adding that most of the angry residents were uneducated and may have been afraid to do so. (24/ylt)
