A street brawl that killed a university student with the initials TRB caused shock in Bekasi earlier this year. One of the perpetrators of the fatal brawl has now been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The brawl took place in front of the Bekasi Creative Center building in Bekasi City on Sunday, 18 January. The perpetrators armed themselves with sharp weapons.

Police subsequently arrested two perpetrators: TFA and a minor. Two others remain at large.

“Two perpetrators, namely TFA and another who is still a minor, while two other perpetrators are still on the wanted list,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations Commissioner Budi Hermanto.

Both were then prosecuted. The juvenile justice process was completed first, and the minor was sentenced to three years in prison.

Meanwhile, the verdict for defendant Tri Fahrezi Agustian, also known as Rezi, was read out on 5 August 2026. Rezi was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of murder.

“Declares that the Defendant Tri Fahrezi Agustian, also known as Rezi bin Wanto S, has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the criminal act of participating in murder as charged in the first indictment. Sentences the Defendant to imprisonment for 10 years,” read the verdict against Rezi, as seen on the Bekasi District Court’s Case Tracing Information System website on Sunday, 16 August 2026.

The sentence is lower than the prosecutor’s demand of 13 years in prison. The judges also did not grant restitution of Rp 75 million to the victim’s family.

The verdict was handed down by a panel of judges chaired by Muhifuddin, with Purnama and Nasrullah as members. The judge ordered that the defendant remain in detention.

In the indictment, prosecutors stated that Rezi’s actions were carried out together with a juvenile offender, Nanang Oval, also known as Opet, and Fajar, also known as Kampleng, in front of the Bekasi Creative Center building on Jalan Sersan Aswan, Margahayu, Bekasi, in the early hours of Sunday, 18 January. Prosecutors said the fatal brawl began when Rezi and his friends were hanging out and drinking in Gang Delima, Bekasi.

Prosecutors said Rezi opened the Instagram account ‘Tongkrong delima 0708’ and received a message from ‘Instagram Dewisartika’ containing the phrases ‘Come out’, ‘Let’s have a brawl’, ‘In front of Bella’ (Bella Hospital). Prosecutors said Rezi informed his friends of the challenge.

“At that time they answered ‘let’s go’, and defendant Tri Fahrezi also informed the ‘Kaum group’ of the challenge via the Instagram social media account ‘kaumslow’,” the prosecutor said. In short, Rezi and his friends departed for the riverbank beside Bella Hospital.

Prosecutors said Opet and Kampleng, who remain at large, had already brought sharp weapons in the form of sickles and bamboo poles for the brawl. After that, Rezi and around 20 of his friends departed for the front of the Bekasi Creative Center building.

“Upon arriving at the scene, they saw the victim holding a sickle measuring two metres in length, which was used to attack the Kaum and Delima groups. Ultimately, this action provoked the defendant’s emotions and anger,” the prosecutor said.

Prosecutors said the defendant and the victim then swung and slashed at each other with the sickles they had each prepared. The sickle held by the victim struck the defendant’s right thumb.

Rezi reportedly tried to retreat after being slashed. Meanwhile, the victim, who tried to flee, then fell.

Upon seeing the victim fall, the defendant turned around and chased the victim. Defendant Rezi then slashed his sickle at the victim’s back, after which Opet and Kampleng also slashed the victim’s head with their sickles.

The juvenile offender then hacked the victim’s left thigh. The victim subsequently died from wounds caused by the perpetrators’ sickle slashes.
