Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesian consumers’ online shopping activities have shown a significant surge in line with changing consumer behaviour. Throughout 2025, SIRCLO recorded transaction volumes on digital platforms increasing more than twofold, in line with Google’s projection estimating Indonesia’s digital economy to reach hundreds of billions of US dollars.

Together with Temasek and Bain & Company, Google compiled the e-Conomy SEA 2025 report, which projects Indonesia’s digital economy to achieve a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of US$180 billion to US$340 billion, or approximately 3,086-5,829 trillion (based on an exchange rate estimate of Rp17,150 per US dollar) by 2030. The three agree that the e-commerce sector is the main contributor.

In line with this, SIRCLO’s internal data recorded a sharp increase in digital shopping activities throughout last year. This condition confirms that online channels are no longer just a complement but have become the backbone of modern retail business growth.

Amid these opportunities, industry developments are also influenced by external factors such as changes in global and domestic economic dynamics, to ever-shifting consumer behaviour patterns in the digital realm. With the market potential still vast, Brian is optimistic that Indonesia’s digital commerce ecosystem will continue to grow. The company also reaffirms its commitment to being a strategic partner for brands in facing changes while capitalising on future opportunities.

“We believe that Indonesia’s digital commerce ecosystem still holds vast opportunities ahead,” Brian concluded.

So, what should online business actors do to maximise profits from this golden opportunity?

  1. Be Sensitive to Market Movements

Amid the surge in online shopping transactions that grew more than twofold throughout 2025, digital business actors are required not only to follow trends. Businesspeople on online platforms must be able to read market directions with precision.

SIRCLO’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Brian Marshal, emphasised that the ability to understand market movements plays an important role in maintaining business growth in the digitalisation era. Brian encourages industry players to be more adaptive to various market changes and consumer behaviours.

“The ability to read market movements and set the right focus is the key to sustainable growth. Entering the strategic phase in 2026,” said Brian at the SIRCLO Media Gathering event on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, in Jakarta.
