10 Professions Most and Least Affected by AI, New Study Finds
Wave of artificial intelligence (AI) has indeed made many workers anxious, especially with the recent advancement of large language models (LLMs). But how significant is the real threat AI poses to jobs?
Researchers from Anthropic recently released a report titled ‘Labor Market Impacts of AI: A New Measure and Early Evidence’.
Notably, they didn’t just measure what AI could theoretically do on paper. Instead, they compared theoretical potential with real-world data from professionals using the Claude chatbot. The results are somewhat reassuring, at least for now.
Anthropic concluded that AI adoption in the workplace is still far from its potential capabilities.
However, the report also clearly maps which professions are currently being ‘infiltrated’ by AI and which remain safe.
According to the report, here is the complete list of the 10 professions with the highest AI exposure:
Anthropic noted that around 30% of US workers have an AI exposure level of ‘zero percent’, meaning their daily tasks are too infrequent or impossible to be replaced by machines, at least for now.
One interesting fact from the report: workers most vulnerable to AI displacement are actually from highly educated and high-earning professional groups.
Data shows that workers highly exposed to AI are dominated by bachelor’s degree holders (37.1%) and postgraduates (17.4%).
Their average wage ($32.69 per hour) is significantly higher than those with no AI exposure ($22.23 per hour).
Despite the concerning list, there is good news from this research. As of the report’s release, Anthropic found no significant surge in unemployment, even among the most vulnerable professions.
Therefore, mass layoffs due to AI do not seem likely in the near future.
