In accordance with Islamic teachings, the UN Charter, the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution, and Indonesia’s commitment to fostering world peace, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) firmly believes that genuine peace cannot be achieved without halting oppression and upholding tangible justice, as justice forms the primary foundation for sustainable peace.

Having carefully and deeply considered with profound concern the military aggression carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, and other countries in the Middle East region, along with all the resulting excesses such as loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, widespread humanitarian suffering, and global security and economic instability, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) hereby issues this Statement on Monday (6/4). There are 10 points conveyed.

  1. Strongly condemning all forms of military aggression and invasion, colonial efforts, and armed violence targeting sovereign state territories, civilians, and public facilities, as these constitute clear manifestations of oppression (al Zhulm), which is forbidden in Islam and contrary to fundamental humanitarian principles.

  2. Calling upon all peace-loving nations to unite and take concrete and measured steps in applying political, diplomatic, and economic pressure to demand the immediate and unconditional cessation of all forms of aggression and military operations, and urging all parties to exercise restraint (Stop War) to achieve conflict de-escalation.

  3. Affirming that every violation of international humanitarian law and human rights must be held accountable legally, without exception and without double standards, including through legitimate international judicial mechanisms.

  4. Urging the United Nations (UN) and all international legal instruments to carry out their mandates firmly, fairly, and without discrimination, including imposing effective sanctions against the United States, Israel, and other parties proven to have committed aggression, war crimes, and humanitarian violations.

  5. Calling on the UN to provide maximum protection in accordance with international law to UN peacekeeping forces, civilians, medical personnel, journalists, and all public facilities.

  6. Calling on all countries and global powers to halt exploitative and hegemonic power politics, and to commit to building a world order based on justice, equality, and respect for national sovereignty.

  7. Calling on the Islamic world united in the OIC, particularly Gulf Countries, to strengthen unity among Muslims (Ukhuwah Islamiyah) and global solidarity, and to reject all forms of divide-and-rule politics aimed at weakening the Muslim ummah.

  8. Requesting the government to promptly and optimally adopt policies oriented towards public welfare and interests. This is necessary because the escalation of the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has triggered an energy crisis.

  9. Encouraging all Indonesian people to collectively monitor state policies in addressing the aforementioned energy crisis as one form of the obligation to protect the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (Himayatu al Daulah).

  10. Inviting Muslims and the global community to strengthen humanitarian solidarity, provide aid to victims, and continuously offer prayers/qunut nazilah so that oppression is swiftly ended and justice upheld.
