10 participants for Winter Challenge

JAKARTA (JP): Ten people made their way through the local competition of the Winter Challenge Marlboro Adventure Team held at Mount Bromo, East Java, late last month, earning the right to take part in the real adventure in the United States.

The Winter Challenge adventure will take place from March 20 to March 28 beginning in Telluride, Colorado, and finishing in Moab, Utah.

"The (local) competition was held from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28 on challenging terrain similar to that of the real challenge," David Tjokro, the marketing manager of PT Philip Morris Indonesia, the local producer of Marlboro cigarettes, said in a written statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Monday.

"We expect the 10 participants to be able to overcome the rough winter weather during their adventure (in the United States)."

Forty-three people took part in the local competition. About 120,000 people applied for the challenge.

The company has sent a team of 10 people to the U.S. to take part in one-week outdoor challenge every year since 1995, except in 1998 when the economic crisis was at its peak in Indonesia. (nvn)
