10 New INKA-Produced KRL Trains Targeted to Operate This Year
JAKARTA - VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter (KCI), Karina Amanda, stated that 10 train sets of electric rail trains (KRL) produced by PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) will operate in 2026. These 10 KRL train sets will complement the procurement of 16 new KRL train sets from INKA that were previously ordered by the government. “So at the moment, we are indeed focusing on completing the 16 train sets that are currently being produced by our colleagues at INKA,” said Karina in a press statement at Commuter Hall, Juanda, Central Jakarta, on Monday (20/4/2026). Nevertheless, the operation of the 10 KRL train sets will be carried out gradually this year. Karina then detailed the results of the purchase of 16 KRL train sets from INKA. From that procurement, six KRL train sets are already operating to carry passengers. Then, one KRL train set has arrived at the Depok KRL Depot and is undergoing the certification testing process. Meanwhile, the eighth KRL train set is in the process of delivery from PT INKA’s factory in Banyuwangi. The rest are still in the procurement process. “We still have 8 train sets that will be ordered again from INKA,” said Karina. The procurement of those train sets costs around Rp 4 trillion and is targeted to be completed in 2025-2026. When asked about which KRL routes will be prioritised to receive the new train sets, Karina stated that they will first assess the readiness of the infrastructure. “We will look at the priority based on the readiness of the infrastructure facilities,” she said.
