10 Malaysian Citizens Kidnapped by Israel, PM Anwar Condemns Hijacking of Global Sumud Flotilla Ship
PUTRAJAYA – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has condemned Israel’s action in once again detaining the humanitarian aid carrier for Gaza, the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), in international waters. Ten Palestinian citizens who joined the voyage were also detained by Israel.
“I condemn the violent actions of the Zionist Israeli regime against the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission in international waters, which is a clear violation of maritime law and resembles piracy that tarnishes universal humanitarian principles,” said Anwar Ibrahim in a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
According to information shared by Anwar Ibrahim on Telegram, at least 22 GSF ships sailing in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 mission were hijacked by Israel while passing through international waters. Six of the 22 ships involved 10 Malaysian citizens.
Prime Minister Anwar urged all parties to take immediate action to ensure no violence is committed against all activists, including the 10 Malaysian citizens, who are currently detained and out of communication. “Their safety must be guaranteed without compromise,” he stressed.
He also stated that the Malaysian Government is communicating and working closely with friendly countries to ensure the activists are released as soon as possible.
Prime Minister Anwar emphasised that in this critical situation, the values of compassion and humanity must overcome all differences, and Malaysia will continue to stand firm in upholding those principles.
