10 Indonesian Companies to Develop National Electric Motorcycle Project
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - CEO of Danantara and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani has revealed that around 10 Indonesian companies are ready to develop the National Electric Motorcycle (Molinas). According to him, these companies have already met the domestic component level (TKDN) criteria set by the Ministry of Industry.
“There are approximately 10 national companies that have met the TKDN criteria from the Ministry of Industry,” said Rosan during the launch of the National Electric Motorcycle and Supporting Ecosystem in Bekasi, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Thursday (13/8/2026).
Rosan explained that there are currently around 140 million motorcycles in Indonesia, with annual purchases reaching 6 million to 7 million units. However, only around 60,000 to 70,000 of those are electric motorcycles.
“So only 1%. If we look at the future potential, the upside could be exponential. And therefore, we also see the market size at around US$170 billion,” said Rosan.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has sufficient raw materials and even the ‘recipe’ for electric motorcycles. Starting from batteries that fully use nickel, technology, and manufacturers that meet standards.
“For the national electric battery, we will fully encourage the use of nickel-based batteries. Because as we all know, 46% of the world’s nickel reserves are in Indonesia,” said Rosan.
Rosan stated that Molinas is a collaboration and synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and national entrepreneurs, in order to enhance Indonesia’s self-reliance.
On that occasion, he also revealed that Lippo Group boss James Riady has expressed his commitment to purchase 20,000 electric motorcycles. Rosan conveyed this while greeting James, as the owner of the land where the Molinas project is being held in Bekasi.
“The landowner is Mr James Riady from Lippo, who earlier spoke about his commitment to buy 20,000 electric motorcycles,” concluded Rosan, which was met with applause from the audience.
