President Prabowo Subianto witnessed the announcement of 10 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and strategic cooperation agreements between Indonesian and Japanese business actors, valued at US$22.6 billion or approximately Rp384.2 trillion, at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (30/3).

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, when confirmed by ANTARA on Monday, explained that at the forum, representatives from companies in both countries alternately presented and displayed the agreed cooperations in front of President Prabowo.

The announced cooperations cover several sectors, including the development of clean energy-based downstream projects such as methanol production from carbon emissions, exploration and development of the oil and gas sector, geothermal energy development, as well as strengthening inclusive financial ecosystems and strategic investments.

“This moment becomes a strong symbol of the commitment of Indonesian and Japanese businesses in expanding concrete collaborations while demonstrating the high confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects,” said Teddy.

The list of announced MoUs is as follows:

  1. MoU on methanol production utilising CO2 emissions from PKT in Bontang, East Kalimantan, between PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and PT Kaltim Methanol Industry;

  2. MoU on cooperation in trade, commerce, and investment between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry;

  3. Strategic cooperation for the development of the Abadi gas field in the Masela Block, Indonesia, between PT Pertamina (Persero) and INPEX;

  4. MoU for potential partnership opportunities in the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia and Southeast Asia between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and INPEX;

  5. MoU on the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Indonesia and Japan; electronic chip design and manufacturing as well as artificial intelligence between PT Eblo Teknologi Indonesia and Hayashi Kinzoku Co., Ltd.;

  6. MoU related to various studies towards the realisation of the Rajabasa Geothermal Power Plant Project between PT Supreme Energy Rajabasa and INPEX;

  7. MoU between SMBC Indonesia and Pegadaian to contribute to Indonesia’s gold ecosystem and financial inclusion between PT Pegadaian and PT Bank SMBC Indonesia;

  8. MoU on the Indonesia-Japan Strategic Beauty Partnership between PT Nose Herbal Indo and 2Way World;

  9. MoU on the Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund between Danantara and Mandiri Investment Management and SMBC Aviation Capital;

  10. MoU on Strengthening cooperation relations between JETRO and PT Danantara Investment Management.

Under President Prabowo’s leadership, this forum serves as an important stage to demonstrate the direction of Indonesia’s economic transformation that is more modern, competitive, and sustainable.
