10 Houses in Biak Numfor Damaged by WWII Bomb Explosion
Ten houses were damaged in a suspected World War II-era bomb explosion in Biak Numfor Regency, Papua, with five fatalities initially reported.
“Initial reports indicate ten civilian homes were damaged by the World War II bomb explosion,” said Biak Regency Police Residency’s Reskrim Head, Ipda Daniel Rumpaidus, according to detikSulsel on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Daniel stated that the incident has resulted in eight casualties, with five confirmed dead and three others still missing.
Meanwhile, three victims are still being sought following the bomb explosion at the Fishery Complex on Walter Mongonsidi Street in Yenures Village, Biak Kota District, on Sunday (May 31) around 2:45 pm WIT. The military and police have been deployed to the scene for evacuation and clearance operations.
“Five bodies have been recovered, with three others still missing,” said Biak Numfor Police Chief, AKBP Ari Trestiawan, in a separate statement to detikcom.
