Approximately 10 homes in Kampung Cijambe RT 05/07, Desa/Kecamatan Bantargadung, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, have been damaged due to land movement that has occurred since the beginning of this week.

Daeng Sutisna, Manager of the Centre for Control and Operations (Pusdalops) of the Sukabumi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, said that the land shift occurred gradually from Monday (22/2) to Wednesday (25/2).

“Based on the assessment in the field, approximately 10 homes have been damaged by the land movement. This occurred from Monday (22/2) to Wednesday (25/2),” said Daeng, Thursday (26/2).

A total of 10 families, or 37 people, have been affected by the incident. The damage mainly occurs on the walls and floors of the houses, which have cracks.

“We continue to monitor the situation since the first day of the land movement. The cracks on the walls and floors continue to expand,” he said.

According to Daeng, the land movement was triggered by moderate to heavy rainfall in recent days, which caused the soil conditions to become unstable.

In addition to the land movement in Bantargadung, the potential for hydrometeorological disasters also occurred in several other areas in Sukabumi Regency. In Nagrak District, a tree fell on a resident’s house during strong winds on Wednesday (25/2). Meanwhile, in Waluran District, heavy rain accompanied by wind caused one house to be damaged after being blown away.

“We urge the public to be aware of the potential for hydrometeorological disasters because rain is still likely to occur,” he concluded. (BB/I-1)

The value of losses due to various disasters in Sukabumi City, West Java, is estimated at IDR 1.3 billion. This amount comes from 125 disaster incidents in the last five months.

The BNPB stated that the number of damaged houses is in the hundreds, with moderate to severe damage.

PWI Peduli Kota Sukabumi has distributed assistance twice to several locations.

During the transition period, the Sukabumi Regency Government still has the task of assessing the damaged houses.

The Ministry of Villages, Community Development and Transmigration (Kemendes-PDT) has promised to immediately prepare for the construction of housing in the area so that in the future the community can live more safely and comfortably.
