10 athletes set for Special Olympics

JAKARTA (JP): Ten athletes will represent Indonesia in the 10th Special Olympics World Summer Games in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, from June 26 to July 4. They will compete in track and field, table tennis and badminton.

Team manager Suranto said in his fax that the athletes were intensively trained since May 20. They will depart on June 20 and will be accompanied by three coaches.

Indonesian athletes have successfully won medals in previous international events. The country took 15 golds in the 1990 Singapore National Olympics, nine golds in the 1991 International Summer Special Olympic Games in Minneapolis, 12 golds in the Disabled Games in Malaysia, 11 golds in the 1993 Singapore National Olympics Games, 13 golds in the 1995 Special Olympics World Games in New Heaven and 10 golds in the 1996 Asia Pacific Regional Special Olympic Games in Shanghai.(yan)
