10,673 Hectares of Rice Fields in Indramayu Threatened by Harvest Failure Due to Drought

A prolonged dry season in Indramayu Regency, West Java, has caused drought conditions across rice-growing areas. Currently, 10,673 hectares of rice fields in this national food barn region are threatened with harvest failure (puso).

These conditions have left farmers deeply concerned. If water supplies are not immediately channelled to their fields, harvest failure is only a matter of time, which will significantly reduce the region’s rice production.

Sutatang, Chairman of the Indramayu Regency Andalan Farmers and Fishermen Contact (KTNA), stated that the 10,673 hectares of rice fields threatened with crop failure are spread across six sub-districts in western Indramayu. These are the sub-districts of Sukra, Patrol, Anjatan, Bongas, Gabuswetan, and Kandanghaur.

“The most extensive area affected by drought is in Sukra Sub-district,” Sutatang told Republika on Tuesday (21/7/2026).

He detailed that out of a total rice field area of 3,445 hectares in Sukra Sub-district, 2,500 hectares have been affected by drought. In Patrol Sub-district, out of a total area of 3,175 hectares, 2,100 hectares are affected, and in Anjatan Sub-district, out of a total of 6,150 hectares, 2,000 hectares have been impacted.
