A major eruption from the Lewotobi volcano on the island of Flores in Indonesia has sent an enormous ash cloud into the sky. Authorities have urged people to stay away from the volcano.

The ash cloud reportedly reached ten kilometres in height, according to Indonesia's Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation. No injuries have been reported from the eruption.

Authorities have asked people to avoid coming closer than two kilometres from the crater, with additional warnings against approaching within five kilometres of the northeast side of the volcano.

Lewotobi is a twin volcano with two peaks. It stands 1,584 metres tall and has erupted several times since 2023, including on 18 May and in March this year. During an eruption from the volcano in November last year, ten people lost their lives.
