Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is targeting the operation of 10,000 electric buses in Jakarta by 2030 as part of efforts to reduce emissions.

“In Jakarta, I am targeting that by 2030, whereas currently, as I speak, there are approximately 500 electric buses, I am targeting more than 10,000 electric buses by 2030,” Pramono said in South Jakarta on Thursday.

He noted that the buses would not only consist of electric buses, but also hydrogen and hybrid vehicles.

He expressed hope that the presence of these buses would help reduce pollution in Jakarta.

“So that this provides room and opportunity for anyone who wants to reduce emissions in Jakarta to work together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” Pramono said.

When calculated alongside several other aspects, operational cost savings over 5.5 years per unit could reach Rp3.9 billion, equivalent to the price of one 12-metre electric bus.

This figure was calculated based on the price difference between subsidised diesel and commercial fuel prices, as well as the operational efficiency of electric buses compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) buses.
