Police in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, have detained five Acehnese people, allegedly members of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), for having falsified identity cards and passports.
The Acehnese people, among the 27 Acehnese people whose presence was detected at the border between East Timor and Indonesia, were detained at the local police's detention cell in the city.
"They have been in the province for one month, we are investigating why they are here. The important thing is that they have falsified identity cards and passports.
"We have a suspicion that they have a special mission in the province. It is strange that they could get their identity cards and passports within a month. Even more unbelievable is that they left their hometown in Aceh to seek work in this least-developed province," Kupang Police precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. F.F. Jeremias Mirah told The Jakarta Post here on Friday.

The security uncertainties in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province have claimed another victim with the shooting dead of United Development Party (PPP) provincial councillor, Nasri Zamzam, 43, on Thursday evening, a report said on Friday.
A resident of the area, who asked to remain anonymous, said Nasri was shot by two unidentified men in front of his house in Alue Glong village, Sukamakmur subdistrict, in Aceh Besar regency, some 15 kilometers away from the provincial capital of Banda Aceh.
The witness, however, said it was obvious that Nasri knew his murderers as they had been involved in a brief talk before the two men shot him at about 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Soon after the killing, Tengku Maksalmina, spokesman for the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in the Aceh Besar region denied any responsibility, saying that "a series of killings had recently been carried out by the Indonesian security forces in an attempt to stop GAM's struggle for an independent nation."

The Denpasar Police have vowed to thoroughly investigate a formal complaint filed by a 24-year-old woman who claims that she and five other women were sexually harassed by the chief of the city's Public Order Office (Tramtib) and two of his men when the women were detained at the office.
"The fact that the case involves a high-ranking government official will not, in any way, hamper our investigation. We are committed to seriously and thoroughly examining this case," Denpasar Police chief of detectives Comr. Budi Wasono said on Friday.
Budi said he had signed the summons for Public Order Office chief Anak Agung Ngurah Gede Astawa and his subordinate Gede Eka Sucita to appear at the city police headquarters next Monday for questioning.
