Three killed
in communal
clash in
S. Sulawesi
3 killed, 4 hurt
At least three people have been killed, four seriously injured,
and more than one hundred houses burned down following a communal
clash between residents of Cappasolo and Padang villages in East
Malangke subdistrict, North Luwu regency, South Sulawesi, since
Monday.
The clash forced hundreds of residents from both villages to
move to safer locations, at Palopo, Luwu Regency and other nearby
villages.
Security forces were deployed immediately to the location to
restore order, but failed to prevent the exodus.
As of Wednesday the situation was still tense.

Central and East Java
agree on river management
The provincial administrations of Central Java and East Java
signed on Tuesday an agreement on environmental and resource
management of the Bengawan Solo River, which flows though the two
provinces.
Both administrations agreed they would gradually demolish
houses along the riverbank to avoid flooding in the area.
"We will inform people in both provinces of this matter. Their
compliance with this master plan is needed," said the head of the
Central Java Development Planning Board (Bappeda), Miyasto, after
the signing ceremony here.

Refugees bank on law
enforcement in Poso
After two years of subsisting in refugee camps, both the
Christian and Muslim communities, forced out of their homes
following sectarian conflict in Poso regency, are now expecting
the authorities to guarantee their security so they can return
home.
The refugees have been seeking a way to return home after the
government stopped their monthly allowance of Rp 45,000 (US$5)
per person and free meals last December.
For young couple -- Asma, 23, and Rintoe, 23 -- life in the
refugee camp is no longer easy as the government has stopped
providing aid. Their only reason to live is Rian, their six-month
old son.
"We have nothing but Rian. He is our reason to live," Asma
said in an interview with The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
