1. REFUGEE: 12 x 4 lines Hungry refugees picket governor's office Hundreds of hungry East Timorese refugees thronged the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) governor's office compound on Saturday to protest the government's unilateral decision to stop providing humanitarian aid.
Crying for food, the visibly impoverished refugees arrived at the compound at 10:30 a.m. in three trucks and a bus. Some of them rode motorcycles.
"We are hungry. We ask for food. We will stay here until the government gives aid (to us)," they yelled.
2. AGUS: 28 x 2 lines Central Java faces water crisis, rice fields most at risk Central Java is facing widespread crop failure as tens of thousands of hectares of rice fields have run out of water in the past month.
It was reported that almost all of the 29 regencies have been suffering from the water crisis, with seven of them -- Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Demak, Rembang and Kebumen -- worst hit.
"We have received letters of request from many subdistricts for clean water, and we've been trying to meet their demands," one member of staff at Cilacap regency administration said over the weekend.
3. ACEH: 32 x 1 line Eight more die in Aceh violence Eight people were killed in a series of violence incidents in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province over the weekend, the military and the GAM separatist group both said on Sunday.
In the latest incident, the military said suspected members of the separatist Free Aceh Movement (GAM) ambushed a car carrying soldiers, killing a junior military officer.
"A local military subdistrict chief, Capt. Chairul Aqsa, and six of his men were riding in a van on Sunday when 15 armed men ambushed them in Alue Ketapang, North Aceh," said Indonesian Military (TNI) spokesman in the troubled province Maj. Zaenal Muttaqin.
4. HELI: 32 x 1 line Two survive chopper accident in Papua Two of the five military officers on board a missing military helicopter at the remote Paniai regency in Timika, Papua province, were found alive on Sunday, after they had managed to reach the nearest Kobae village, some two-hour walk from the crash site, Antara reported.
Spokesman of the Trikora Reginal Military Command, overseeing the province, Maj. G.P. Situmorang said the two -- identified as First Lt. Ikhwan and First Lt. Tedy -- were suffering serious injuries, while the fate of the other three Army officers, including the ruin of Army's Bell BO-205, remained unclear.
"Since we lost contact with the helicopter, we have started searching for its passengers and the exact location where it had crashed.
"But, we are yet bale to detect it," Situmorang said, adding that the Army, along with National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), would continue to search them on Monday.
