The Bandung city government predicts that the number of tourist visits will reach 1 million during this 2026 Eid holiday. Up to Wednesday (25/3), 700,000 travellers have crowded various spots in the capital of West Java. This was stated by Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan on Friday (27/3). He revealed that the majority of visitors are family groups who choose to stay overnight. The tourists are dominated by residents from the Jabodetabek region. “Up to last Wednesday, around 700,000 visitors were recorded. We estimate this number could reach 1 million at the peak of visits on Saturday (28/3) and Sunday (29/3),” he said. The high enthusiasm of tourists has a positive impact on the hospitality sector. Farhan noted that the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels from 3 to 5 averages above 50%, while non-star hotels are approaching 50%. Even during the peak period of H+2 and H+3 of Eid, according to him, hotel occupancy once reached above 90%. Based on the data he gathered, there are five most popular tourist destinations during this long holiday, namely Masjid Raya Al-Jabbar, Kiara Artha Park, Museum Geologi, Taman Lalu Lintas, and Saung Angklung Udjo. On the other hand, Farhan acknowledged a major challenge in waste management. Currently, there is an increase in waste volume of more than 20%. This condition is exacerbated by the early arrival of the dry season, so dry leaf waste accumulates a lot on the streets. “Waste production has increased by more than 20%. We are working hard to clean up the dry leaf waste that is increasing rapidly because the dry season came faster than expected,” he explained. To maintain tourist comfort, Farhan has instructed the Environmental Agency (DLH), Transportation Agency (Dishub), and Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to be on full alert 24 hours a day. “Besides waste, the main focus of officers right now is cracking down on illegal parking,” he said.
